One of the advantages of the Sarasota housing market is that a few of its most pleasant neighborhoods are nestled within green spaces that keep them hidden from main view without actually being isolated. Such is the case with Country Oaks, a secluded subdivision of about 300 single-family homes located just north of the commercial districts at the intersection of Lockwood Ridge Road and University Parkway.
Development of Country Oaks dates back to the mid-1980s; the neighborhood was platted by a company with a very long track record of building in Sarasota. Since the developers had their finger on the pulse of economic growth in the region, they accurately predicted that this former stretch of citrus farms would one day transform into one of the most academic and commercial districts of both Manatee and Sarasota counties.
Despite being a reasonably large subdivision, not many people are aware that Country Oaks is located behind a Walmart Supercenter right off Lockwood Ridge Road. This community is shielded by large, leafy and mature oak trees. The predominant architecture is the Florida ranch-style homes of the 1980s along with quite a few properties built in the Mediterranean revival style.
As of early 2018, pricing at Country Oaks held around $300K for properties with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Some of the largest ranch-style homes feature 1,800 square feet of living space, and a few Mediterranean-style properties have two levels. Neighborhood amenities include two tennis courts, a swimming pool, five lakes, a picnic area, and a nature trail that connects with Conservatory Park.
Country Oaks is known to attract families due to its many suburban comforts such as the University Walk shopping center and all the shops and restaurants situated along University Parkway. Driving to Downtown Sarasota and to the beach takes about 20 minutes. Only a few listings come on the market at any given time; for this reason, buyers should work closely with their agents to be able to move into this neighborhood.
