In the years that followed the Allied Victory over in World War II, a major wave of prosperity and residential development was experienced across Sarasota, which resulted in the creation of the Sarasota School of Architecture, a method of home building that is both functional and stylish. In the 1980s, one of the architects of the Sarasota School designed Crooked Creek, a low-rise condominium community that looks like a serene college campus hidden within exuberant landscaping.
Located to the east of the Tamiami Trail and in the vicinity of the Red Bug Slough Reserve, Crooked Creek in Sarasota is one of those neighborhoods that your real estate agent has to help you find. The two entrances on Lockwood Ridge Road and Austin Street are easy to miss; once you enter the community, you will a forest meadow with mature trees, ponds, creeks, and lots of birds. There are 13 buildings arranged along both sides of a creek connected by a small pedestrian bridge where residents and guests can enjoy amenities such as a tennis court, swimming pool and a gorgeous picnic area.
If you are looking for stylish home designs, nature and lots of privacy in a quiet section of Sarasota, Crooked Creek should be at the top of your house hunting list. All units feature two bedrooms and two bathrooms, and some of them are built on more than 1,800 square feet of interior, thus making them larger than many modern Sarasota condos.
Early 2018 pricing for Crooked Creek ranges between $160K to $260K. Only a few units come on the market at any given time, and they tend to sell very fast. The neighborhood’s convenient location near Proctor Road means that residents have easy access to supermarkets, cafés and restaurants. Driving to the Siesta Key beaches is a straight shot west on Proctor Road until you reach the Tamiami Trail and decide between going south to Stickney Point Road or north to Siesta Drive; either way, you will be at the beach in about 20 minutes.
