We like using our Lakewood Ranch Lanai for relaxing, cooking out and we enjoy the spa, too. I found an article from This Old House that is a step by step guide to building a bar cart. The tools needed are a miter saw, drill, jigsaw, clamps, and a brad nailer. Now I know most people might not have all those tools, but if you do I think you would agree that this project doesn’t seem too difficult. It’s one of those “fun” projects that give you an excuse to get out your tools and anytime I have an opportunity to use my tools I let my wife know about it. The inside joke between us is that I worked for Bosch Power Tools for years and when there was a tool special it didn’t matter what the tool was, I tried to come up with the money to buy it. She made a comment once, maybe twice that I spent money on tools that are still in the box and not being used. Well to this day when I get a chance to use a rare tool like a router or biscuit joiner I let her know about it.
Back to the project, a few cedar 1x’s make up the lumber with wheels and hardware. The hardware consists of nails, screws, an axle, hex head connector bolts, and cotter pins. Head to the hardware and lumber department at Home Depot or Lowe’s and you’re on your way.
When completed, you have a multi functional cart that could be used for BBQ’s, enjoying the pool or spa, and maybe even gardening. As far as a BBQ I thought how nice this would be to load up with condiments, hot dogs and hamburgers, the buns, and beverages and wheeling it out to the lanai. It could be used for beach towels, sun tan lotion, and other items you might use for the pool or spa.
Again it is one of those fun projects and if done right something that could be used for years. You can view the article in its entirety here.
