I can’t remember the exact place where I was introduced to Murphy beds, but I wanted one. Over a year ago I stopped into a store called More Space Place in Lakewood Ranch and I was hooked. My wife wasn’t sold immediately, but liked the idea too. We have an odd shaped bedroom and we realized it could be turned into a multi function room by the addition of a Murphy bed. We pondered the idea for a few weeks, but what sealed the deal was a comment one of our neighbors made. At a neighborhood Christmas party she told us they viewed our home and didn’t buy it because of that room. Their thoughts were, how would a bed fit and what to use the room for if not a bedroom. The room isn’t square; it has a wall that is slanted inward which makes positioning a bed difficult.
We went back to the store and told the manager about our plans. He came to the house took measurements and gave us some ideas. His design was right on. A desk was constructed for that slanted wall and the bed is mounted to the adjacent wall. The room is used for an office and when guests visit the bed pulls down and used as a guest bedroom.
If you have an odd shaped bedroom that you’re not sure what to do with I definitely recommend a Murphy bed. They aren’t cheap, but we turned a room that wasn’t functional at all and made it multi functional. We added value and comfort to our home by the addition of the Murphy bed.
