The last few times my mother-in-law has visited I have shown her a few properties on the Manatee River in Bradenton Florida. She drives down from Ohio, visits with us in Lakewood Ranch and then drives over to her vacation home in Melbourne Florida. Because of their home in Melbourne, which is 3 hours east, there really isn’t too much visiting at all. Now when they retire and they’re down here for 6 months that drive to Melbourne isn’t going to be fun at all, but they like the Ocean and we understand that (we’re still trying to get them to buy over here though). Their plan is to spend 6 months in Florida and 6 months on Lake Erie up in Ohio. This is the true definition of the term “Snow Bird” which you hear a lot down here. I have said it once and I will say it again maintaining one home is tough enough, now imagine two. These homes on the Manatee River have everything that she currently has in Lake Erie, but maybe a warmer summer. I say maybe because I understand it was very hot up in Ohio last summer (2010). Again this isn’t the first time that I have said to her buy one home and be done with it, but change is difficult.
The whole point is if you’re a boater or someone from up North who spent many years enjoying one of the Great Lakes these Bradenton Homes on the Manatee River would be for you. The home we showed her had 2000 sq ft, 3 bedrooms and a huge kitchen, but it was the location and the view that sold us. A sliding glass door was the only thing that separated us from nirvana. The enclosed pool overlooked the river and dock that led out to the Manatee River. I really could envision my mother-in-law enjoying the pool while my father-in-law prepped the boat for a cruise out on the water.
For the ultimate in luxury living we also took a tour of Hawk Island which was less than a block away from the home described above. At the moment these luxury homes aren’t in my price range or my mother-in-laws, but as a realtor I really appreciated the opportunity to view these homes that had everything including the view.
Again, my belief is if you had the chance to see any of these magnificent homes on the water you might change your mind, own one home, cut down your workload and enjoy Florida year round.
