From the entrance on Jacaranda Boulevard, the Hidden Lakes Club in Venice appears to be a large residential development; it is easy to get this impression because of the various fountains and extensive landscaping lining the approach to the entrance, but the reality of this neighborhood is that you will only find 100 single-family homes once you make it across the main gate.
The aptly-named Hidden Lakes was initially developed in the late 1990s at a time when Venice was mostly regarded as a sleepy coastal town for snow birds and seasonal residents. These days, Hidden Lakes is home to many families, single professionals, and retirees who enjoy living in a quiet and low-key neighborhood. Four large lakes provide many homeowners with nice views, and a nature preserve on the north end acts as a noise buffer from the nearby roads.
Since Hidden Lakes was developed nearly two decades ago, the Mediterranean revival architectural style of the homes is more ornate compared to the more recent building trends in Sarasota County; this means columns at the entrance, decorative tiles on the roofs, cathedral ceilings, and other nice extras. Some of the properties have swimming pools connected to covered Florida rooms, and many have been upgraded with features such as Corian countertops, natural stone flooring, and breakfast bars.
For late 2019, pricing at Hidden Lakes ranges between $310K and $400K; the more valuable listings are those with private pools and more scenic lake views. Residents and their guests also enjoy a community swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, a gym, a spa, and a nice playground. The convenient location provides easy access to restaurants such as Cracker Barrel and BrewBurgers. The Jacaranda Commons shopping center is where you will find the nearest Publix supermarket on Venice Avenue, and this is the road where you can drive west to the main tourism district and the beach, which are about 15 minutes away.
