The Fabulous Bird Key Homes for Sale of Sarasota County

The Island of Bird Key has it all.  Located just over the Ringling Bridge the island is centered between Downtown Sarasota and St. Armand's Circle.  You’re within minutes to fine dining and unique shopping at both Downtown Sarasota and St. Armand’s Circle and really you could go by foot, by car, or by boat.  If you’re a beach bum like me and can appreciate a good sun tan your in luck as Lido Key is less than five minutes away and the world famous Siesta Key beach is just a 20 minute drive. 

Many of these Bird Key Homes are waterfront properties so if you’re a boater you’ll be in heaven.  Think about owning a home with your boat docked right in your back yard.  Now how is that for convenience?  I know I would be taking a quick spin around Sarasota Bay on a daily basis and if I had a little extra time I would head out to the Gulf.  With just over 500 single family homes on the island real estate is in demand.  There are no high rise condominiums as the zoning doesn’t permit it.  Some of the finest and most luxurious homes in the area are on Bird Key.  As your driving over the bridge from Sarasota just look south and you will see some of the fine luxurious waterfront Bird Key homes I’m talking about.

To the right (or north) as you just get over the Ringling Bridge is Bird Key Park.  It’s a roadside park where people swim, fish, kayak or canoe; there are picnic tables, and it is pet friendly.  Bird Key Park is just a nice place to take in the views of Downtown Sarasota, Sarasota Bay, Lido Key and maybe an occasional dolphin.  If you’re able to call Bird Key home you really do have to pinch yourself.  As they say this is “Living in Paradise”!

For a little history of the island it all started with the Arvida Corporation who purchased the land from the Ringling family back in 1959.  Development started shortly there after and the timing was perfect.  A concrete bridge had just been built (the Ringling Bridge), a modern airport was developed and operational and retirees and World War 2 Veterans and their families were heading south to the Sarasota area.  As your cruising around in one of the man made canals you can thank the Arvida Corporation for that too.  By the early 60’s they had dredged 180 acres of prime bay bottom to create a transportation system leading to Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico.

Currently homes range as low as $500,000 for some of the original island homes built in the early 60’s.  The more luxurious waterfront homes built within the last few years are going for as much as $10 million.  That’s right, I will take two!  I really just love this area and like I said it just has it all so when you’re ready for a tour of Bird Key and would like to preview a few of the Bird Key Homes feel free to contact me.
