Since 2016, the North Port City Council has been hosting an annual real estate summit, and the most recent was held at the new campus of the Suncoast Technical College near Toledo Blade Road and I-75. There was both satisfaction and optimism at the 2018 summit, which was focused on economic development, particularly with regard to completion of CoolToday Park, the new spring training home of the Atlanta Braves. The inaugural game in March 2019 ended up with a victory by the Braves over the Tampa Bay Rays, their new regional rivals, and fans got to see more than just baseball: they witnessed the real estate potential of this rising Florida city.
CoolToday Park and the Braves’ training facility are just the beginning of an ambitious real estate development plan intended to match the economic growth of North Port. What this means for prospective home buyers is that the time to invest in local real estate is now. North Port is literally in the big leagues now, and affordable opportunities such as the Jockey Club are getting considerable attention.
The Jockey Club in North Port is an established neighborhood located near the Heron Creek Golf and Country Club, north of the Tamiami Trail and not far from the famous Warm Mineral Springs Park. This neighborhood has the feel of a large subdivision thanks to its 600 single-family residences, which were built on generously sized lots about four decades ago. If you like the Florida ranch style of residential architecture, you will certainly find it here, and you will also like the ultra-affordable homeowners association fees, which for $100 a year offers a heated swimming pool, a clubhouse, tennis courts, a library, shuffleboard, and basketball courts.
As of 2019, prices at the Jockey Club are among the lowest in Sarasota County. Finding a three-bedroom home with two bathrooms, a two-car garage, and fenced backyard for around $150K is not unheard of. The properties in this community are generally very well-kept, particularly since there is a “Home of the Month” contest, and you can see that considerable care is given to landscaping.
By virtue of its proximity to nature preserves, golf courses and Venice Beach, the Jockey Club used to attract many retirees, but quite a few young families have discovered this quiet neighborhood in recent years. Suburban comforts can be found just minutes away along Tamiami Trail, including the brand-new Publix supermarket at Cocoplum Village. Driving to the beach in Venice takes less than 30 minutes, and downtown Sarasota is about an hour away.
