In 2018, the Southwest Florida housing market is expected to continue riding the momentum it experienced in 2017, and real estate analysts believe that a home buying trend will emerge in favor of properties that have not been built in cookie-cutter fashion. To this effect, the former Oak Ford Golf Club in the eastern section of Sarasota County is a good example of a neighborhood where home buyers can find real estate diversity.
Development of Oak Ford dates back to the 1980s; at that time, golf communities in Sarasota mostly followed the Mediterranean revival style of architecture. Oak Ford presented a departure from this uniformity of design as it allowed home buyers to choose from various builders and develop their own custom creations, and the result has been a very attractive community in terms of residential architecture.
House hunting in Oak Ford means being able to choose from styles as diverse as Tuscan, Spanish Colonial, Caribbean, Tudor, Victorian, Mediterranean, and even Key West homes. Most properties are spectacular; one example listed in early 2018 is a country estate with a circular driveway sitting and large wooden deck on a five acre lot offering more than 2,100 square feet under air conditioning. This three-bedroom and two-bathroom property was listed at $485K in early 2018; similar homes range between $400K and $500K, and lots available for new construction start under $85K.
Oak Ford is built on more than 450 acres of Florida nature; the 27-hole golf course is not operational as of 2018 pending a decision by the developers on how to proceed with the land. This community is ideal for families who love the outdoors since it is close to horse riding stables and the Myakka River State Park. The nearest shopping center is the large Bee Ridge Plaza, which is anchored by a remodeled Publix supermarket. The beaches of Siesta Key are close enough to visit every weekend.
