The Tampa Bay region and Southwest Florida have various things in common, including great neighborhoods, but there is one advantage that you can easily find in cities such as Palmetto that is no longer as common in larger places like St. Petersburg: low-density districts. Palmetto Point in Palmetto is a great example of this advantage; located in the Rubonia district and at the southern foot of the Skyway Bridge, this small subdivision offers the authentic Florida Gulf Coast lifestyle at some very affordable prices.
Most of the properties at Palmetto Point are Florida ranch-style homes built on large lots; some are right on the water while others are just blocks away from the Gulf of Mexico. This is a traditional boating and fishing community where homeowners have easy access to public boat launch points, fishing piers, and marinas. The price points are unbeatable and considerably lower than in the Tampa Bay region; Palmetto Point is where you can find four-bedroom homes with two bathrooms and 1,827 square feet of living space listed for less than $270K. Going into 2020, you can even find construction-ready lots for just $70K. The homeowners association fees are very low and will provide you with access to the community center and private boat landing.
Some of the waterfront estates at Palmetto Point feature their own private docking space on a canal and can be found listed for less than $600K. The older and more affordable Florida ranches often come on the market under $200K, and they are between 500 and 800 feet from the shores of the Terra Ceia Bay. Families enjoy living just minutes away from the pristine Terra Ceia Preserve, and a few convenience stores can be found along Highway 19. For more shopping, the Publix supermarket in the Palmetto Historic District is not far at all. Although St. Petersburg beach is closer than Anna Maria Island, the former tends to get crowded on weekends.
