As one of the oldest residential settlements of Bradenton, Warner’s Bayou is an Old Florida neighborhood that predates the nearby Palma Sola. This small waterfront subdivision is named after the founding family that moved here from New England at the end of the Civil War; to this effect, some of the homes are historic Old Florida cottages dating back to the 1920s. Members of the Warner family were into subsistence and commercial fishing, which is why this neighborhood has retained a public boat ramp that is carefully maintained by the city.
Warner’s Bayou offers a nice diversity of architectural styles. The earliest cottages and Florida ranches have been lovingly renovated over the years, and there are many spectacular Key West homes and Mediterranean estates that sit along the water. The residents are a mix of families, retirees, anglers, boating enthusiasts, and real estate investors interested in nurturing the historical value of their properties.
Living in this community means having easy boating access to the Manatee River, the Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. You can launch kayaks from a couple of spots. Holmes Beach and Anna Maria Island are close enough to visit on a daily basis, and driving to Downtown Bradenton will take you about 10 minutes. If you drive five minutes south, you will encounter the Manatee Avenue commercial corridor, where you will find everything from Winn-Dixie to Publix supermarkets along with many other conveniences.
The historical character of Warner’s Bayou encourages homeowners to take good care of their properties. You can find old cottages listed for less than $300K, but you can be reassured that they are in great shape. The municipality takes care of the numerous oak and banyan trees along with lush greenbelt areas. At the more upscale end of the housing spectrum, Warner’s Bayou also offers imposing waterfront mansions with six bedrooms and private docking space. All in all, this is one of the most charming neighborhoods you can find around Bradenton.
